The wait is over.
David Wright will be the first pinch-hitter off the bench Friday night at Citi Field as the Mets take on the Marlins, manager Mickey Callaway announced Friday afternoon.
The appearance will be the third baseman's first in the majors since May 27, 2016.

Wright will start at third base on Saturday in front of a sold out ballpark. He will have a couple of at-bats throughout the game, return to third base following his final at-bat, and then be removed to a standing ovation, Callaway told reporters.
The captain will bat third on Saturday, and will not play Sunday.
Following the conclusion of Saturday's game, the final one of the captain's career, the Mets will honor Wright with a video tribute.
