Mesoraco is understood to be reassessing his options. The Mets have the option of releasing the 30-year-old catcher or moving him to the restricted list.
His reassignment came a day after he went unclaimed by every team, after he exercised the upward mobility clause in his contract.
With O’Roarke and Santiago moved to minor-league camp, Kyle Dowdy could be in line to make the Mets’ Opening Day roster as a seventh reliever.
The Mets are expected to finalize their Opening Day roster in the coming days.
