There's been a mystery surrounding the Jets over the past week.

On Dec. 24, Internet sleuths came across a Twitter account with the handle "Wyattv18," which predominantly featured posts highlighting head coach Adam Gase's success in the NFL. One post mentioned Gase would "be out of a job for 10 seconds" if the Jets were to move on. The account, which was recently deleted, bares a faceless image as its profile picture. There's no definitive indication of who ran the account despite rampant speculation.

WFAN's Evan Roberts needed to bring himself up to speed on the twists and turns involving the burner account. The speculation rapidly grew as a result of a New York Daily News article, which mentions either Gase or a family member allegedly has an account to "monitor what is being written or said about him."

Roberts and fellow Jets fan Kevin Clancy, AKA KFC of Barstool Sports, discussed the puzzling theories Tuesday.

"I do have a conclusion," Roberts said. "I believe the person we're looking for is somebody nobody knows or cares about. I think it is a random person who set up an Adam Gase burner account with the intent of 'I'm going to make Adam Gase look bad' and in the midst of it said, 'You know what I should do? I should frame Manish Mehta, and that's where s/he turned the plot of what they were doing from a 'let's make Gase look bad' to 'make Mehta look bad' and let me delete the whole thing and run away."

Gase was rumored to be the alleged operator due to the account's username matching his son's name, Wyatt. KFC wrote a lengthy piece compiling screenshots and other factoids to organize it all. He doesn't disagree with Roberts' thinking.

"Honestly, entirely possible," KFC responded. "The reason I say everything is on the table here is because the behavior of any person who puts together a burner and truly anonymously is lurking in the shadows ... it's such a crazy thing to do that I feel like anything is possible. All of these different scenarios are all so ridiculous, but anybody who'd go to those lengths is a ridiculous person."

KFC speculated that it could be anybody. He pondered the thought that it could either be the typical crazed sports fan, Gase himself or Jets beat reporter Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, who he said is a "guy who stirs the pot."

During Gase's year-end news conference Monday, Mehta asked the Jets head coach if he had a Twitter account monitoring what was being said about him. He quickly responded: "No. Do you?"

Roberts doesn't believe it's either individual.

"Early on, I knew it wasn't Adam Gase," Roberts said. "Some of the things this person was saying in defending Adam Gase was over the top. ... There was a tweet that basically said Adam Gase put Peyton Manning over the top. That is crazy!

"I'm a little sympathetic for Manish Mehta. It's so easy to take one of his tweets and then quote-unquote accidentally tweet it out like this Wyatt character did and go with the 'Oops, clearly Manish made a mistake.' He's not making that mistake, KFC! He's not doing that."
