A lot has been said this offseason about Jacob deGrom's contract situation with the Mets.
Fresh off a historic season, deGrom is set to make $17 million after the team awarded their ace with the highest raise in arbitration in MLB history. While he still has two more seasons under team control before he hits the open market, the 30-year-old is looking for a long-term deal with New York.
The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner added a new wrinkle to the drama Thursday when he indicated that he won't rule out imposing an innings limit if an agreement on an extension isn't reached before Opening Day.
MORE: DeGrom May Consider Innings Restriction If No Deal Is Reached
Mike Francesa discussed deGrom's hinting at a possible innings restriction on Thursday's Mike's On, and although some callers sided with the pitcher, Francesa made it clear that he was not on board with deGrom limiting his work this season.
"I don't get it. I really don't..." Francesa said on fans' support of deGrom's potential innings restriction. "I'm not saying to be pro-owner or be pro-player. You should be down the middle. You should worry about what your costs are. That's what I'd be worried about.
"I'm going to have a guy that's going to walk off the mound, and you're going to say, 'I understand that.' I don't. Maybe you do. I don't understand that. The system is now anti-player? In what world is the baseball system anti-player?"
