Boomer and Gio have a vested interest in Tony Romo's performance at the Safeway Open.
Why?
Romo received permission from CBS to play in the PGA tournament. If he makes the cut, Boomer Esiason will fill in for him as the color analyst on Sunday's Vikings-at-Bears game. Boomer has conditionally asked his radio sidekick, Gregg Giannotti, a die-hard Vikings fan, to join him at the game.
"I was like, 'Sure, that'd be great," Giannotti said on Friday's "Boomer and Gio" show". "But that's like, 'Hey, do you want to go to the moon?'"
And it's so far, so good for Romo.
"What did I tell you the chances were?" Boomer said of when he invited Giannotti. "They're going to be slim because everybody's telling me that it's going to be really hard for Tony to do this. And then he shoots a career round yesterday, and you're texting me, like, incessantly just like, 'Yo, can you believe this? Can you believe this.'
"The amazing thing to me is he's on the other side of the country playing golf. You're watching it, and you are keeping me up to date on what's going on, and you are, like, all wrapped up into this not because you want him to win or him to qualify; you just want you to be able to go to Chicago."
Added Gio: "That's it. That's all this is about, man, in my book."
