LISTEN: Gio, Recco React To Aaron Judge Injury

By WFAN.com

Not only has the avalanche of injuries continued for the Yankees, it has now taken down the team's biggest star.

WFAN's Gregg Giannotti and Jerry Recco opened Monday's "Boomer and Gio" show discussing Aaron Judge, who was placed on the injured list Sunday with an oblique strain that manager Aaron Boone described as "pretty significant."

"Every team always go through this, and the Yankees have certainly gone through it a little bit, too, but not to this extent," said Recco, filling in for Boomer Esiason. "This is Met-ian, and it's almost like every day they play, 'all right, who got hurt now?' And this one over the weekend's a tough one."

Judge becomes the 13th Yankee currently on the IL, joining catcher Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez, Luis Severino, Didi Gregroius, Miguel Andujar, Aaron Hicks, Dellin Betances, Greg Bird, Troy Tulowitzki, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jordan Montgomery and Ben Heller. In all, 14 Yankees have spent time on the injured list already this season.

The Yankees did not provide an estimated timeline for Judge's return.

"I think that they're a little bit scared about what happened last year with him and the chip fracture on his wrist, where they said, 'Ah, we'll see him in just a couple of weeks' and all of a sudden it turns into a very, very long injury -- whatever it was, 40-something games he ended up missing," Giannotti said. "So I think they're trying to be careful with this."

Despite all the injuries, the Yankees won three of four against the Royals and are 11-10. But Giannotti said not to expect much from the Bombers without Judge -- unless they start getting some key players back soon.

"Giancarlo Stanton -- we haven't heard a thing about where this guy has gone," Giannotti said. "It's like he strained a bicep and gone. So his ass has got to get to the lineup and carry this team while Aaron Judge is out or you're going to be looking at a Yankee team who's going to be spinning their wheels for the rest of the year. Because this is not sustainable, I'm sorry."
