NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Yankees officially announced Monday they have re-signed left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ.
The contract is for two years with a vesting option for 2021. Earlier reports said the first two years of the deal are worth $34 million.
The Yankees acquired Happ in a trade-deadline deal with the Blue Jays in July. He was stellar after arriving in the Bronx, going 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA in 11 appearances. He, however, struggled in his lone playoff appearance, allowing five runs over two innings in the opening game of the ALDS against the Red Sox, a 5-4 loss.
Happ, 36, went 17-6 with a 3.98 ERA with 193 strikeouts overall with the Yankees and Blue Jays in 2018. Over his 12-year career, he's 109-82 with a 3.90 ERA. He was selected to his first All-Star Game last season.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman made it clear that he'd been looking to land two front-line pitchers to the rotation this offseason. He acquired the first one last month when he traded with the Mariners for James Paxton.
The rest of the Yankees' rotation includes Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia. Jordan Montgomery is also set to return, but he's coming off Tommy John surgery.
