The Boston Red Sox got out to an ideal start in ALDS Game 1.
Designated hitter J.D. Martinez connected on a three-run homer to push Boston out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Boston starter Chris Sale breezed through the first inning, striking out the side. He surrendered one walk.
Sale was charged with two runs on five hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings before being replaced in the sixth inning.
The Red Sox ended up edging the Yankees, 5-4 to win Game 1.
