Jets' Williams: I'm Going To 'Try To Sack Every Last Quarterback'

By WFAN.com

It's been two weeks since the Jets made Quinnen Williams the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and based off his press conference Friday, it doesn't look like the smile he had on stage in Nashville has left his face.

The rookie admitted to feeling a bit star-struck when he first arrived at the Jets' facility and met Le'Veon Bell, Sam Darnold, Jamal Adams and others.

But once he got over meeting some of his favorite players, Williams made it clear to the media that he is thrilled to be a member of the Jets and can't wait to do some damage on the field.

"I just want to get a sack," the defensive lineman said to the press Friday. "I just want to get one sack. Once that one sack is done, I want to get multiple sacks. Whatever quarterback. I'm just going to go out there and try to sack every last quarterback. I'm going to try to do my technique and just try to dominate everyone in front of me so I can get a sack."

The 21-year-old tackle will be paired with Leonard Williams to form a strong interior pass-rushing duo.

The rookie out of Alabama recorded eight sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss and 71 total tackles in 15 games for the Crimson Tide last season.

Due to his elite athleticism, Williams will likely be moved all over the defensive line in order to take advantage of his quickness and versatility.

No matter where defensive coordinator Gregg Williams plans to put him, the 6-foot-3, 303-pound rookie will be ready to go.

"Wherever they put me, I'm going to play," the third overall pick said. "I'm going to go out there and try to dominate. If they put me on kick returns, I'm going to go crazy. They can put me anywhere, I'm going to try to dominate."

One of the new-look Jets' biggest tests this season will be the team's contests against the New England Patriots.

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have won 10 consecutive AFC East titles, a streak that Williams and the rest of Gang Green are certainly looking to break this year.

"It's crazy," Williams said about the possibility of sacking the six-time Super Bowl Champion. "Tom Brady started playing in the NFL before I was born. To be able to sack him would be amazing."

Williams' math may have been a bit off (he was born in 1997 while Brady didn't make his NFL debut until 2000), but it was clear that sacking Brady would be a special feat for the rookie.

The Jets' four-day rookie orientation continues through May 12 at the team facilities in Florham Park, NJ.
