Joe Namath Tells 'Boomer And Gio' He Likes What He Sees In Gase, Darnold

Adam Gase and Sam Darnold have been given the Joe Namath seal of approval.

Talking to WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti on Monday at training camp in Florham Park, New Jersey, the Jets legend spoke highly of the team's new head coach and second-year quarterback.

Namath, who lives in South Florida, said he's quite familiar with Gase from his three seasons as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

"I like his style, and I'm happy that's he here," the Hall of Famer and Super Bowl III MVP said.

"He's interesting. He's terrific. He's got a lot of gamesmanship and drive."

The Jets have been searching for a franchise quarterback since Namath was let go after the 1976 season. Fans are hoping Darnold proves to be that elusive QB.

Broadway Joe likes the no-nonsense style of Darnold, who has avoided social media.

"Prioritizing what we need to do, that's where his focus is," Namath said. "He knows the responsibility that he has. Watching him in college at SC (Southern California), I'm saying, 'Wow, look, this kid's good. He can move around. He can throw.' Didn't believe his size because you couldn't tell on television what nice size he had there. And now we see what he's bringing. He gets it."
