NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Rhode Island coach Dan Hurley says he knew his Rams would win their first-round NCAA tournament game against Oklahoma if they stuck to their brand of basketball.

Rhode Island, the seventh seed in the Midwest Region, did just that, beating the 10th-seeded Sooners on Thursday, 83-78.

"We knew going in the way we were going to win the game was going to be with grit and toughness, that kind of Northeastern toughness that our guys play with," Rams coach Dan Hurley told WFAN's "The Afternoon Drive" after the game.

"We just showed who we've been the whole year -- a deep team, a tough team that just finds ways to win," the Jersey City native and Seton Hall product added.

Next up for URI is second-seeded Duke. When asked Thursday afternoon about facing the Blue Devils, Hurley joked: "Oh boy! Can we enjoy it (the Oklahoma win) a little bit before we get into that?"
