It was WFAN’s own John Sterling that christened Yankees outfielder Mike Tauchman ‘The Sock-Man’ as part of his signature home run call – and this spring, the Yankees themselves took John’s ball and ran with it.
The Yankees on Demand team has, over the years, used Spring Training to film many a memorable promo spot; whether it be Didi Gregorius and Starlin Castro as Step-Brothers, Aaron Judge as a superhero saving the day, or a gaggle of players (including Brian McCann as Ham) doing their take on The Sandlot, mere mentions of promos past set off memory bells in a lot of heads.
This year’s crop has already included the Yankees’ rotation (and Ron Guidry) shilling for “Whiff’s Garage” and Gleyber Torres’ Gleyber of the Month calendar, but it was The Sock-Man, and one of the Yankees’ resident jokesters in Tommy Kahnle, who stole the show in the latest video that can only make everyone remember what it was like to wake up on Christmas morning to open…a package of socks.
Don't they know it's just a nickname, @MTauchman? pic.twitter.com/PctlAkUd7e

July 14, 2020 Props to the writers, and Tauchman for his deadpan delivery, on the red socks line, as well as the dinosaurs eating pizza – but double props to Kahnle for making a sock puppet even more quirky than the concept already is, and the perfect timing of cheering up a forlorn Tauchman.
