It's no secret that the Mets bullpen has been the biggest reason for their struggles this season. They have blown 21 saves, one more than the actual amount of saves they have. They clearly need some help.

According to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, the Mets have checked in on Tigers' relievers Shane Greene and Joe Jimenez. Greene made the All-Star team this year and Jimenez was an All-Star last season.

Greene is having a sensational season so far in a rebuilding year for the Tigers. The closer has a microscopic 1.09 ERA with 22 saves in 33 innings pitched. He has blown just two saves. This is by far his best season. Greene saved 32 games last year, but had a 5.12 ERA. Greene is making $4 million this year and is arbitration eligible next season. The righty would be a welcome addition to a bullpen that has been bad in every aspect. Greene would likely cost the Mets a pretty good prospect in return.

Jimenez is not having a good year after making his first All-Star Game last season. The right-hander has a 4.96 ERA in 32 2/3 innings. The good thing about Jimenez is that he's under team control through the 2023 season, so he wouldn't cost much and is just 24 years old. Due to his struggles, Jimenez probably wouldn't cost the Mets much in a trade.

The Mets are 6.5 games back of the second NL Wild Card spot. The question is will they be buyers or sellers? It would make plenty of sense to help the bullpen at least for next season. Going after one or both these relievers would go a long way in doing so. The Tigers are 28-54 and rebuilding, so the Mets won't be able to unload one of their rentals to get these guys. It will take a few prospects.
