The Mets have finally received a bit of good news.

New York has reached an agreement with prized third-round pick Matthew Allan, according to WFAN Insider Jon Heyman.

Allan must still pass a physical before officially signing with the team.

The 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher from Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida was widely considered the best high school pitcher in the country and easily a first-round talent. He was ranked as the 13th-best prospect by MLBPipeline.com and No. 16 by Baseball America.

The 18-year-old had been committed to the University of Florida, and had dropped in the draft because of his contract demands and concerns about whether or not he would actually sign. 

The Mets gambled by selecting Allan with the 89th overall pick. However, the team had remained confident in their chances to sign the young arm since the night of the draft.

New York had around $2.5 million left in their draft pool to offer the third-round pick.

Allan has a fastball that sits in the mid-90's and tops out at 97mph, a true 12-to-6 curveball and an improving changeup already in his arsenal.
