The Nets are preparing themselves for what could be the most important offseason the franchise has ever had.
Brooklyn already made one move to clear cap space in order to pursue the top free agents available this summer with the trade of Allen Crabbe. Now Sean Marks has made another.
The Nets have declined to make a qualifying offer to forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, making the 24-year-old an unrestricted free agent, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The move currently gives the Nets $46 million in cap space, a figure that could increase by more than $20 million depending on D'Angelo Russell's future with the franchise.
While he has never been a force on offense, Hollis-Jefferson has shown the ability to defend multiple positions well, which should be enough for him to garner some interest in free agency this summer.
The Nets have their eyes set on the offseason's biggest free agent prizes, with reports indicating Kyrie Irving intends to sign with Brooklyn and may bring another star with him.
Free agency officially begins at 6pm on June 30.
