Carlos Gomez looks to be heading back to Flushing. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Gomez will re-join the Mets on a minor-league contract that will pay $1.25 million if he reaches the majors. The agreement is pending a physical.

Gomez batted .208 with nine home runs, 32 RBIs and 12 stolen bases for the Tampa Bay Rays last season. He is a career .253 hitter over 12 seasons.

The 33-year-old outfielder is a two-time All-Star, whose best seasons came with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2013 and 2014, where he batted .284 each year with 24 and 23 home runs, respectively.

Gomez was traded by the Mets to the Minnesota Twins in the 2008 blockbuster that brought Johan Santana to Queens.

He played his rookie season of 2007 with the Mets. He batted .232 with two home runs, 12 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in his debut year.

Gomez captured the 2013 NL center field Gold Glove. He has hit for the cycle twice in his career -- on May 7, 2008 and Apr. 29, 2017.

A proposed 2015 trade would have sent Gomez back to the Mets, but the deal fell apart due to Gomez’s medical results.

Pending any kind of medical red flag this time around, Gomez appears set to return to the Amazins and figure into a heated race for outfield places.

The Mets already have strong competition this spring for outfield spots. Michael Conforto, Brandon Nimmo, Juan Lagares, Jeff McNeil, Keon Broxton, Rajai Davis and Gregor Blanco already are vying for places prior to Gomez's arrival.
