Mets' second baseman Robinson Cano escaped serious injury after being hit by pitch on Sunday. An MRI showed only bruising and swelling.
It was feared that Cano could have suffered a break or fracture. Fortunately for Cano and the Mets, that wasn't the case.
"It's a huge relief," Cano told Newsday. "The last thing you want is to be out."
The 36-year-old is batting .270 with three home runs and 11 RBIs through 26 games.
Cano will miss Monday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Jeff McNeil will start in Cano's place.
The Mets open a four-game series against the Reds on Monday.
