It was unclear if there would be room for CC Sabathia on the Yankees postseason roster, but it looks like the veteran may have a spot after all.

Sabathia pitched Wednesday night against the Angels and was emotional in what was his last regular season appearance at Yankee Stadium. On Friday, Aaron Boone spoke about Sabathia's role going forward. He confirmed that the plan is to use the 39-year-old out of the bullpen for the rest of the regular season.

"CC's going to pitch out of the pen, at least a couple of times probably on the road trip," Boone told the press. "He'll probably pitch once in Tampa and hopefully once again in Texas. We're still talking through some scenarios and options, but that's one we know for sure."

Sabathia has struggled at times in his final season in Major League Baseball. He is 5-8 on the year with a 4.99 ERA and has dealt with knee issues for much of the year.

Despite all his experience, Sabathia has never come out of the bullpen in a regular season game. He will have a chance to in the final games of the season as the Yankees finish their season with a road trip.

The landscape of New York's pitching rotation had been altered a bit by the news about Domingo German, who has been placed on Administrative Leave while the league investigates him for an alleged domestic violence incident. He reportedly won't play again in 2019.

Luis Severino's return to the fold after being out for basically the entire season has also changed things up. Boone told Mike Francesa Thursday on WFAN that he expects Severino to be a starter for the Yankees in October.
