Aaron Judge will need a new contract at some point, but it doesn't seem like anything is imminent.
Other big stars in Major League Baseball, like Mike Trout and Justin Verlander, have been receiving extensions lately, and Judge is still on his rookie contract. The 26-year-old will make just over $600,000 in 2019.
On Monday, Judge told ESPN Radio's "The Michael Kay Show" that there have yet to be any discussions between him and the Yankees on a new deal.
"We haven't spoken about that," said Judge when asked about the possibility of a contract extension. "I've got a job to do on the field. For the most part, I let my agent handle that kind of stuff. For me, as long as I'm under contract doing my thing, I'll keep playing. I'll let guys making the big bucks handle that."
Judge will be eligible for arbitration after the 2019 campaign, but he won't be able to become a free agent until 2023. The Linden, California native has become one of the Yankees most important players in recent seasons, so it's likely that he will get that new deal eventually.
The Yankees have already re-upped a few key players already this offseason. In February, Luis Severino signed a four-year, $40 million contract and Aaron Hicks agreed to a new seven-year, $70 million deal.
Judge only played in 112 games last season due to injuries, but he still managed to put up 27 home runs and 67 RBIs. His breakout season came in 2017 when he won the Rookie of the Year award and finished second in the AL MVP voting.
