In his third season at Rutgers, coach Chris Ash is eyeing the postseason.
In an interview with WFAN's "Carlin, Maggie and Bart" on Thursday, Ash said the program is "right on track" in the three-year plan he laid out when he took the job.
Year 1 was about changing the culture and establishing how he wanted things done. Year 2 was about becoming more competitive. Now Ash's goal is to lead the Scarlet Knights to their first bowl game in four years.
"We've got a lot of work still to do, and we've got to continue to improve to make that happen," Ash said. "But I like where we're at today to try to reach that goal."
Rutgers, which is coming off a 4-8 season, opens its season Saturday at home against Texas State.
Ash said he believes the Scarlet Knights' biggest strengths are at tight end, running back, the offensive line and secondary.
The coach added that he feels good about starting quarterback Artur Sitkowski despite that the Old Bridge, New Jersey, native is a true freshman.
"He's just a very, very mature young man well beyond his age, and he's a leader, high care factor, he's got tremendous football IQ," Ash said.
