The dream All-Star Game pitching matchup for New York baseball fans won't happen.
The Yankees' Luis Severino and the Mets' Jacob deGrom have pitched well enough this season to be in the conversation to start Tuesday's Mid-Summer Classic at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. But managers A.J. Hinch (American League) and Dave Roberts (National League) have opted instead to go with the Red Sox's Chris Sale and the Nationals' Max Scherzer.
DeGrom leads the majors with a 1.68 ERA, but often victimized by poor run support from his teammates, he has just a 5-4 record to show for it. Scherzer, meanwhile, is 12-5 with a 2.41 ERA.
Severino has an MLB-high 14 wins and a 2.31 ERA. Sale, who is 10-4 with a 2.23 ERA, will become the first pitcher to start three consecutive All-Star Games since the Phillies' Robin Roberts in 1953-55.

The Yankees' Aaron Judge will bat sixth and play left field.
