C.J. Mosley has been ruled out for the Jets' game at Jacksonville on Sunday, and coach Adam Gase isn't dismissing the possibility that the inside linebacker could be placed on injured reserve.
Mosley suffered a groin injury in the season opener against Buffalo and then missed the Jets' next four games. He returned last week against New England, but the four-time Pro Bowler wasn't his usual self, recording just three assisted tackles.
On Wednesday, Gase told reporters that doctors were doing a "deep dive" and that Mosley might be dealing with more than a groin injury. On Friday, the Jets coach said he would known more about Mosley next week.
Mosley, 27, was the Jets' prized defensive free agent signing this year, inking a five-year, $85 million contract. In a little more than one half of football in Week 1, he recorded six tackles, intercepted a pass for a touchdown and recovered a fumble.
Gase said he's not sure if inside linebacker Neville Hewitt (neck/knee) will be able to play Sunday, either, meaning the Jets might have to make a move before at linebacker Sunday.
