Yankees star second baseman D.J. LeMahieu left Saturday night's game against the Red Sox due to a left thumb injury.

LeMahieu was set to undergo imaging for a sprained thumb, the team said. His status for Sunday was unclear.

The three-time All-Star appeared to injure himself on an awkward swing during a fourth-inning at-bat, but he remained in the game after conferring with manager Aaron Boone and a team trainer. The at-bat ended in a weak groundout.

LeMahieu was later replaced by Tyler Wade at second base in the top of the sixth inning.

The 32-year-old LeMahieu is off to a fast start in the shortened season, continuing the offensive revival he enjoyed in 2019, his first season with the Yankees, when he hit .327 and clubbed a career-high 27 home runs.

The injury comes at an inopportune time for the hot-hitting Yankees, who recently lost sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge to leg injuries.

The Bombers were cruising to an easy win despite the early departure by LeMahieu, who finished 0-for-4. The 0-fer dropped his season numbers to a still-blistering .405 batting average and .977 OPS.
