TORONTO (WFAN) -- It didn't take long for Giancarlo Stanton to make an impact as a Yankee.
In his first at-bat with his new team -- and more precisely the second pitch he saw -- the slugger crushed a two-run homer off the Toronto Blue Jays' J.A. Happ, scoring Brett Gardner.
Stanton didn't stop there. He also hit an RBI double and a solo homer -- another tape-measure blast -- as the Yankees looked every bit the part of a serious World Series contender in a 6-1 Opening Day win over Toronto.
Stanton, acquired in a December trade with the Miami Marlins after hitting 59 homers last season, finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored. He became just the second Yankee since 1908 to have at least three extra-base hits and four RBIs on Opening Day, joining Roger Maris, who did it in 1960 in what was coincidentally his Yanks debut.

"That was cool, man," Stanton said of homering in his first at-bat. "I tried to be as calm as possible coming up, and the anticipation was big for me. But I was able to settle it down and understand that it's just a game, even though it's a big-time Opening Day -- my first one as a Yankee -- but I was able to calm it down."
"That's what we've seen all spring. That's what we saw last year what he did with the Marlins," Aaron Judge said. "And it's fun to watch first-hand. My job is pretty simple now: Just get on base for G."
Meanwhile, New York pitcher Luis Severino (1-0) picked up where he left off in his breakout season last year, allowing just one hit over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out seven and walked three.
Gardner also homered for the Yankees, hitting a solo shot off Danny Barnes in the seventh inning. Judge and Aaron Hicks each went 2-for-4 for the Bronx Bombers, who provided Aaron Boone with a memorable debut as manager.
Toronto's lone run came on a Kevin Pillar homer off Dellin Betances to lead off the bottom of the eighth.
Happ (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five batters and walked one.
