Stanton On Astros' Sign Stealing: 'I Would Have Hit 80-Plus Homers'

Giancarlo Stanton is the latest Yankee to rip the Houston Astros over the sign-stealing scheme they employed during their 2017 World Series-winning season.

The slugger said there's no question that being tipped off about the pitch selection is a huge advantage for a hitter.

"If I knew what was coming in '17, I would have hit 80-plus homers," he told reporters at spring training in Tampa, Florida.

The Astros eliminated the Yanks in a seven-game American League Championship Series en route to beating the Dodgers in the 2017 World Series. Stanton was still a member of the Miami Marlins then, hitting an MLB-best 59 home runs and winning the National League MVP.

Stanton agreed with Yankees teammate Aaron Judge's opinion that the Astros should be stripped of their '17 championship.

"The investigation (showed) it was clean cut that they cheated that year, which means it should be taken away," he said.

Stanton added that the apologies from Astros players ring hollow with him.

"You're only really sorry because you got caught," he said.
