Nobody knows for sure whether or not fans will be able to fill stadiums this upcoming NFL season – if there is a season at all -- so the Giants are giving their season ticket holders an option.
The Giants offered those with season tickets the right to take the 2020 season off this year and not receive tickets due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their Personal Seat License (PSLs) will remain intact for 2021 if they decide to skip the 2020 season, the team announced on Monday.
In the past, PSL owners have been required to purchase tickets each season to maintain the rights to their seats.
The New England patriots unveiled a similar plan last week as teams and the league prepare for a season that will be impacted by COVID-19.
Here is the policy the Giants released, via NJ.com:
Because of the COVID-19 crisis and our commitment to our season ticket members, we are offering all of our season ticket members a choice for 2020. We communicated with our season ticket members this morning via email. This is a re-cap of what the various segments of our season ticket members were told:
The due date for next payment (or payment in full) has been moved from July 1 to August 14. For those who have not yet paid for their season tickets, they will be given the option of 1) a four-month payment plan starting Aug. 14, or 2) the opportunity to take the season off and not purchase their season tickets for 2020. Their PSLs will remain intact and we will see them for the 2021 season.
For those currently enrolled in the 6 month plan, the new due date for next installment (which would be installment No. 2) has been moved from Jul 1 to Aug. 14. These STGs will also be given the option of taking the season off and not purchasing their season tix for 2020.
For those enrolled in the 4 month plan, the new due date for the first installment has been moved from Jul 1 to Aug. 14. Again, these people will be given the opportunity to take the season off.
For those who have already paid in full, they obviously do no need to do anything regarding payments, but they will be given the opportunity to take the season off.
