The right tackle was benched for Big Blue's game against the Houston Texans. He was replaced by undrafted second-year player Chad Wheeler.

Flowers has struggled since being drafted ninth overall by the Giants in 2015, allowing 17 sacks in his first three seasons while starting at left tackle.

In March, new general manager Dave Gettleman signed former Patriot Nate Solder to take over at left tackle, moving Flowers to the right side. But the results haven't been much better through the first two weeks of the season, with quarterback Eli Manning being under constant duress. The Giants, meanwhile, are 0-2.

The 6-foot-7, 317-pound Wheeler played in 11 games last season and started five because of injuries to Justin Pugh and Bobby Hart.
