Just one start into his career and Daniel Jones already has an NFC Offensive Player of the Week honor on his résumé.
The NFL announced Wednesday the Giants' rookie quarterback received the recognition after his impressive debut as a starter Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jones completed 26 of 40 passes for 353 yards with two touchdowns. He also rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 7-yard run, in leading Big Blue back from a 28-10 deficit to win the game 32-31.
It was the first time a Giants quarterback has run for two TDs in a game since Jeff Hostetler did it on Nov. 10, 1991. And it was the first time a Giants QB had at least two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a game since Charlie Conerly in 1948.
Jones is the first player to be named Player of the Week after his first career start since Titans QB Marcus Mariota in Week 1 of the 2015 season.
The last Giant to be selected Offensive Player of the Week was running back Saquon Barkley after Week 11 last season, when he rushed for 142 yards and scored three touchdowns, coincidentally against the Buccaneers.
