The Giants picked up fifth year options for both tight end Evan Engram and safety Jabrill Peppers on Tuesday.

By picking up their options, the Giants are extending each of their rookie contracts through the 2021 season.

Engram, who was selected by the Giants with the 23rd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, will make $6 million in 2021. Peppers, who was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 25th overall pick in the same draft and traded to the Giants in the Odell Beckham Jr. blockbuster last spring, will earn $6.8 million in 2021.

Of course, those numbers could change if an extension is reached beforehand.

By picking up both of their options, the Giants maintain two key veterans through the 2021 season, but could also cut or trade either one after the 2020 season with no additional cost.

Engram, 25, had a strong rookie season but has struggled to stay healthy over the last two years and was subject to trade rumors ahead of the draft. Engram played in eight games last season and had 44 receptions for 467 yards and three touchdowns.

Peppers, 24, appeared to be rejuvenated in his first season with the Giants last year, recording 76 tackles (51 solo) and had an interception, three forced fumbles and five pass breakups before a back injury cut his season short after 11 games.
