The Giants have released veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall with a failed physical designation, general manager Dave Gettleman confirmed at the team's draft press conference Thursday afternoon.
Marshall caught just 18 passes for 154 yards and no touchdowns before suffering a season-ending ankle injury during New York's Week 5 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Giants signed the veteran receiver to a two-year, $11-million deal last offseason.
Marshall had reportedly agreed to take a pay cut in early March for the 2018 season, but was still eventually released. The cut will save the Giants $5.1 million against the cap.
The 34-year-old has played for five teams during his 12-year NFL career, amassing 959 receptions for 12,215 yards and 82 touchdowns during that span.
Dez Bryant, released by the Cowboys last week, has expressed interest in joining the Giants. When asked specifically on Thursday about the team's potential interest in Bryant, Gettleman wouldn't shut down the idea.
"I have interest in everybody," the general manager said. "We do our film work. You never know."
