Giants' Barkley Ruled Out For Vikings Game

Giants running back Saquon Barkley surprised many this week with his work on the side during practice, fueling speculation that he might return for Sunday's game against the Vikings. But it appears his high ankle sprain still has some healing to do.

The Giants on Friday ruled Barkley out for Sunday's game.

The second-year running back suffered the injury during Big Blue's Week 3 win at Tampa Bay. Reports said he was expected to miss four to eight weeks.

But after Barkley took handoffs and made cuts at near full speed Wednesday, coach Pat Shurmur told reporters: "Some people's doctors had him at eight weeks. Not my doctors." He refused to rule his star running back out then.

Barkley, however, did not officially practice with the team this week.

Wayne Gallman will start at running back Sunday for the Giants, who are trying to win their third straight game and climb over the .500 mark for the first time since 2016.

The Giants also ruled out linebackers Alec Ogletree (hamstring) and Tae Davis (concussion) and listed linebacker Lorenzo Carter (neck) as questionable.
