The Islanders will be without center Valtteri Filppula for the next four weeks, the team announced Wednesday.
Filppula suffered an upper-body injury on a hard hit by Boston's Connor Clifton in the Isles' 5-0 loss to Boston on Tuesday night.
The timeline for Filppula's return means he will be sidelined when the playoffs begin next month. The Islanders (42-24-7, 91 points) currently trail Washington by two points for the Eastern Conference lead.
Filppula, who turns 35 Wednesday, has 15 goals and 14 assists (29 points) this season.
The Islanders also said Wednesday that right wing Jordan Eberle is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
