Janoris Jenkins' brother has been charged with aggravated manslaughter according to the Official Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Fair Lawn Police Department.
James Ritts, the district attorney in Onatrio County, New York, told TMZ Sports that William Jenkins, 34, was arrested there early Tuesday morning on an unrelated parole warrant issue. The arrest was made about nine hours before the body of a man was found in the basement of Janoris Jenkins' Fair Lawn, New Jersey, house. Ritts said Bergen County authorities are working to extradite William Jenkins to New Jersey.
Authorities identified the deceased as 25-year-old Roosevelt Rene, described as a family friend who had been staying at the house. Investigators are reportedly investigating his death as a strangulation or suffocation. The medical examier will determine the exact cause of death.
Janoris Jenkins has been in Florida in recent days. ESPN's Dianna Russini reported that he wants to return to New Jersey but is being advised by attorneys to stay in Florida.
