Jets Acquire Offensive Lineman Alex Lewis From Ravens

The Jets needed help along their offensive line, and now that help might be on the way.

New York announced that it has acquired Alex Lewis from the Ravens. Baltimore was about to put Lewis on waivers, but the Jets decided to pounce and make a move before the rest of the league was given a shot at him. The move was first reported by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, who adds that the team only gave up a seventh round pick in the deal.

Lewis spent the first three years of his career with the Ravens after they picked him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Lewis missed all of the 2017-18 season with a shoulder injury. Last year, he played in 10 games for Baltimore.

The Tempe, Arizona native played college football at Colorado before transferring to Nebraska. He has one year remaining on his current deal.

There was some concern for Lewis last season when he went down with a neck injury in Week 6 against the Titans. He had to be carted off the field, but he avoided serious injury and only missed two games.

Lewis took to Instagram on Monday morning to announce that he had been cut by the Ravens, but the Jets must have swooped in before that roster move was made official.

New general manager Joe Douglas has taken over only after Mike Maccagnan led the team through much of free agency. Maccagnan was eventually fired, but not before he shaped much of the team. Smaller transactions like this one will be the main way Douglas can alter his roster in the lead-up to the new season.
