The Jets placed running back Bilal Powell on the injured reserve Wednesday, a big loss for a team trying to stay in the playoff hunt. He will miss the rest of the season. Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Powell will need surgery for a bulging disk in his neck and that it could be a career-threatening injury.
Powell left Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings in the second quarter with a neck injury.

In seven games this season, the 29-year-old rushed for 343 yards and added 11 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown.
The Jets (3-4) announced they filled Powell's roster spot by signing safety Ibraheim Campbell, who spent four games with the Dallas Cowboys this season.
Powell joins a growing list of banged-up Jets that also includes wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, cornerbacks Trumaine Johnson and Buster Skrine, safeties Marcus Maye and Doug Middleton. The team also reluctantly released wide receiver Terrelle Pryor because he was injured.

Running back Elijah McGuire, who was placed on the injured reserve before the season with a broken foot, is eligible to return next week. He returned to practice last week. The Jets also have veteran Isaiah Crowell and rookie Trenton Cannon at running back.
Powell will be a free agent after this season.
