Jets' CJ Mosley To Miss 5-6 Weeks Due To Groin Injury

C.J. Mosley fought to get back on the field for the Jets as quickly as he could, but now he's set for another spell on the sidelines.

Mosley was injured during the Jets' heartbreaking Week 1 loss to the Bills. He missed the next four games before returning against the Patriots in Week 6, but he didn't look like himself in the debacle against New England and missed the loss in Jacksonville on Sunday.

On Monday, Adam Gase told the press that Mosley is out for the next five or six weeks.

A groin injury is what initially took Mosley off the field. Gase said last week that the team's doctors were doing a "deep dive" to determine if a groin injury is all that the linebacker was suffering.

Mosley hasn't been able to show his stuff too often since signing for New York as a free agent in March. The Jets' defense has missed the 27-year-old, who spent the first five years of his career playing for the Ravens. The five-year, $85 million deal for Mosley was the biggest contract the Jets gave out this offseason.

Gase says 5-6 weeks for Mosley, but the Jets are 1-6. Playoffs are looking like an impossibility, and thus the team could ultimately decide that it would be smarter to shut Mosley down for the rest of the season rather than risk further injury.

Gase added that the hope is still that Mosley can avoid having to undergo surgery on the issue.

New York traded Leonard Williams on Monday morning in a sign that Joe Douglas is looking to sell off assets. It doesn't seem likely that Mosley will be one of those assets traded. He's still only 27 and is under contract with the franchise for four more years after this season.
