It's not often that an NFL team cuts its third-round draft pick from that year. But then again, it's not often that a team changes general managers between draft day and cutdown day.
The Jets made a surprising move Saturday by waiving linebacker Jachai Polite, whom they selected in the third round out of Florida in April. But that pick was made by then-GM Mike Maccagnan, who was fired in May. His replacement, Joe Douglas, was clearly not impressed by Polite.
The Jets also made a trade just before Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline to cut their roster down to 53, sending cornerback Parry Nickerson to the Seahawks in exchange for a conditional 2021 seventh-round pick.
Nickerson was a sixth-round pick by Maccagnan in 2018. As a rookie, he played in all 16 games, starting two, and made 21 tackles.
Here is the complete list of moves made by the Jets. Of course, additional roster activity in the coming days is highly likely, as teams look for upgrades among those players released by other clubs.
