As the Jets approached Tuesday's trade deadline, general manager Joe Douglas decided not to part ways with his key pieces.
Robby Anderson, Jamal Adams and Le'Veon Bell notably became available in the discussions leading up to the 4 p.m. deadline. Douglas, however, couldn't come to an agreement with those interested in dealing with New York.
Green Bay was one of the few teams to show interest in acquiring Anderson. The Jets set a high asking price on the wide receiver, reportedly asking for a second round pick in exchange for Anderson. The Packers balked at the price and the highest pick offered to New York was a fourth rounder, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.
Trade talks involving star safety Jamal Adams also didn't come to fruition.
New York and Dallas reportedly spent the time leading up to the deadline discussing a trade, which would send the Texas native back to his home state. Adams appeared in every game and tallied 236 combined tackles since he was drafted in 2017. The physical former LSU standout would have fetched a significant return from the Cowboys, who were looking to add to their defensive unit.
Adams was open to a potential deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, but Dallas wasn't willing to pay the significant price for the Pro Bowl safety.
There's no indication of what the Jets sought in return from either Dallas and Baltimore, the other club that showed interest — but a first round pick would likely be an included part. Mike Leslie of WFAA in Dallas revealed that his Cowboys' front office source wouldn't trade a first and second round pick for Adams, implying Douglas' hope for an immense return.
Seven months removed from signing a four-year deal with the Jets, Le'Veon Bell appeared to be on his way out of New York as well.
Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News reported the Jets were seeking to trade the running back by the deadline. Bell, who's tallied 349 yards in seven games, could likely warrant a large return as he's under contract for the next three seasons.
Teams initiated contact with Douglas to acquire Bell, but the team opted to hang onto the 27-year-old running back.
"I am happy as hell to be a New York Jet," Bell said on social media. "I'm happy to be here despite all the trade rumors and talks. I'm here and happy to be here but everybody has to have a little bit of patience."
Leonard Williams was traded to the Giants on Monday, Big Blue's only deal leading up to the deadline. The Giants made the move official Tuesday afternoon.
