The news has already been common knowledge for a couple days, but on Friday the Jets made it official.
The team announced that it has hired Adam Gase to be its next head coach. He will be formally introduced at a news conference at 2 p.m. Monday.
Gase becomes the 19th coach in franchise history after Todd Bowles was fired at the end of the season.

Gase, 40, joins after going 23-26 in three seasons with the Dolphins, including a trip to the playoffs in 2016. He was fired after going 7-9 this season.
His résumé includes serving as offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears. Playing in Gase's Broncos offense in 2013, quarterback Peyton Manning enjoyed a record-breaking season, passing for 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns en route to a Super Bowl.
"This was a thorough process and we had the opportunity to speak with some outstanding people," Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said in a news release. "Adam is an experienced teacher who has a great passion for the game. His work with quarterbacks has been well-documented, but he is a good communicator who will build an excellent staff. He can't wait to get started and I'm eager to work with him as well."

The Jets' job was widely considered to be one of the most attractive among the eight coaching vacancies in the NFL this offseason. The team, which went 4-12 this season, has a young, promising quarterback in Sam Darnold, nearly $100 million available to spend in free agency and the third overall pick in April's draft.
On Friday afternoon, it was reported that the team was close to making Gregg Williams the defensive coordinator of Gase's staff.
