Report: Jets Request Interview With Saints Executive In GM Search

There's a new name in the Jets' search for a general manager.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the Jets have requested an interview with New Orleans Saints director of pro scouting Terry Fontenot. Fontenot has spent 16 seasons with the Saints, the last six in his current role.

The #Jets added a 5th name to their GM search: NYJ has put a request in for #Saints Director of Pro Scouting Terry Fontenot, sources say. Under-the-radar, but Fontenot has a great reputation and along with Sean Payton & Jeff Ireland, has helped NO drastically improve its roster.

The Jets also have reportedly requested interviews with Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas, Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly, Vikings assistant general manager George Paton and Seahawks co-director of player personnel Scott Fitterer. Douglas is believed to be the favorite.

The Jets are looking for a replacement for Mike Maccagnan, who was surprisingly fired earlier this month after leading the Jets through the draft and the heart of free agency. Coach Adam Gase is serving as the interim GM.

The MMQB's Adam Breer reported earlier this week that the Jets planned to speak to a "half-dozen or so" candidates in their first round of interviews.

Jets chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson and senior vice president of business affairs and general counsel Hymie Elhai are "the lead players" in the search, Breer reported, with Johnson making the final decision. Gase said he is among those who "are trying to help put the right type of guys in front of" Johnson.
