Jets Sign Third Overall Pick Quinnen Williams

Quinnen Williams and the Jets have finally come to an agreement.

It took a while, but the Jets announced on Thursday that they had signed the No. 3 pick in the draft to his first contract, a four-year deal. Williams, who was the last first round pick who remained unsigned, can now report to training camp on Friday to start getting ready for his rookie season.

The issue between Williams and the Jets was about the signing bonus, according to multiple reports. It's still unclear just where the two sides ended up on that issue, but that was the reason that was apparently the reason why it took so long to get reach an agreement.

Williams starred at Alabama before leaving following his redshirt sophomore season. He recorded eight sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss and 71 total tackles in 15 games for the Crimson Tide last year. The 21-year-old has the potential to be a destructive player on the Jets' defensive line.

It's that time of year where players start to sit out practice, and preseason games, due to contract disputes. Williams and the Jets were able to bridge their differences well before even the exhibition games are supposed to start.

The Jets will open preseason against the Giants on August 8. Williams should make his debut then.
