Adam Gase's job is safe this season as well as this offseason, Jets CEO Christopher Johnson said Wednesday.
Talking to reporters in Florham Park, New Jersey, Johnson said he found it "exceedingly frustrating" that the Jets, 2-7 this season, have not lived up to his expectations but gave Gase a vote of confidence anyway.
"There’s a great deal of work to do," Johnson said. "Everyone understands that, and we're just getting started. But I feel really good about this team moving forward."

After three straight seasons of double-digit losses, the Jets entered the season with higher expecations due to promising second-year quarterback Sam Darnold and key offseason acquisitions such as running back Le'Veon Bell and linebacker C.J. Mosley. But Darnold missed time with mono early in the season, and after he returned, he struggled badly in losses to the Patriots and Jaguars. Running behind a subpar offensive line, Bell hasn't looked like the All-Pro he was in Pittsburgh. And a groin injury has sidelined Mosley for all but two games.
"We’ve had a lot of adversity," Johnson said. "Sam hasn’t been given the best opportunity to thrive. We’ve had so many moving parts on the offensive line that I think it has affected his ability to play as he would like."
The Jets next play Sunday at 1-8 Washington.
