The Islanders prevented another one of their impending free agents from hitting the open market Friday, agreeing to terms on a five-year deal with right wing Jordan Eberle.
The contract is worth $27.5 million, or an average annual value of $5.5 million, TSN reported.
"I think if you look at my year ... it was definitely up and down obviously," Eberle told reporters during a conference call Friday. "Wasn't a great start, and it really wasn't until February that I really got it going and I thought anyways took my game to another level and into the playoffs. And it was really from that moment on that I wanted to get something done and be a part of the Islanders. I liked what we had going. I liked obviously the coaches, the GM. I liked where their mindset was at."Last month, Islanders president and general manager Lou Lamoriello re-signed center Brock Nelson, who also was set to become an unrestricted free agent, to a six-year, $36 million contract. Other Islanders slated to hit free agency this summer include center and captain Anders Lee, center Valtteri Filpuula and goalie Robin Lehner.
