Cleveland Cavaliers star J.R. Smith reportedly turned himself in to police in Manhattan on Friday morning after he was accused of snatching and throwing a man's cellphone onto a construction site last month.

According to the New York Post, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania fan called police July 26 claiming that Smith grabbed and tossed his phone after he tried to take a photo of the former Knick. The incident happened outside The Park restaurant on 10th Avenue in Manhattan.

The alleged victim says his $800 phone was damaged in the incident.

According to TMZ, Smith was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and issued a desk-appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date.

“This is nonsense, and we’re not going to respond to nonsense," Smith's lawyer, Alex Spiro, told the Post.

It's not Smith's first brush with the law regarding fans taking photos of him. In 2015, a 19-year-old man said Smith refused to pose for a picture at a pizza shop and then choked the teen after he taunted the point guard. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office did not pursue the case, citing insufficient evidence.
