Knicks rookie Allonzo Trier apologized Thursday for a profane Twitter message that appeared to blame a teammate for a defensive lapse.

Through a direct message, Trier responded to a fan who criticized him for allowing the Rockets' Eric Gordon to hit a wide-open 3-pointer in the final seconds of Wednesday night's 114-110 loss to the Houston.

"It was supposed to be a switch dumb a-- you think i just let n----- walk up and shoot a 3 smh y'all 'fans' don't think," Trier wrote in a message that was screen captured and then tweeted out by the fan.

Trier's excuse essentially placed the blame on Tim Hardaway Jr., who was guarding James Harden and did not switch to Gordon on the screen.

When told about the exchange Thursday, Hardaway said: "Oh, so he blaming other people, basically? At the end of the day, I think it all falls down on the team. Team defense, you learn from it."

Trier told reporters Thursday his comments were out of line.

"Getting frustrated about the game, then letting social media get the best of you and giving somebody a response that wasn't to somebody that was relevant to the situation," Trier told reporters at Knicks practice. "So my apologies for doing that. Obviously, I didn't think he would take a picture of (the message) and post it, but he got his little clout or whatever ... his 15 seconds of fame."
