EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (WFAN) -- Giants safety Landon Collins needs surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder, ending his season prematurely, according to multiple reports.

Recovery time is four to six months. The two-time Pro Bowler is set to hit free agency in March and is expected to be one of the top players available on the open market.

Collins injured his shoulder on a hit on Bears running back Tarik Cohen during the Giants' 30-27 overtime win Sunday.

Initial X-rays on the shoulder were negative, but Collins underwent further tests this week that revealed the tear. Shurmur conceded Wednesday that Collins would "most likely" need surgery.

Through 12 games this season, Collins, 24, leads the Giants with 96 tackles. He also has one forced fumble and four passes defensed.
