NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Mets great Ed Kranepool joined WFAN's "The Afternoon Drive" on Thursday to remember his former teammate Rusty Staub, who died earlier in the day.

"He was a great hitter, a great competitor, wanted to play all the time," said Kranepool, who teamed with Staub from 1972-75. "You know, he was a little strange in some of the things he used to do, but he never bothered anybody. He never tried to hurt anybody, and he was a great human being. Look at all the work he did after 9/11 with his charity in New York.

"Baseball's going to lose a great ambassador. Rusty was a sweetheart."
