January 6, 2020 Rhule has been considered the frontrunner for the head-coaching vacancy following Pat Shurmur's departure.
The 44-year-old attracted the attention from a slew of teams. He was a candidate for the Jets head-coaching position last season. Rhule met with Panthers brass on Monday, but recently declined an interview opportunity with the Cleveland Browns.
He's revitalized Baylor's football program, leading the team to an 11-win season and a Sugar Bowl finish in 2019. In September, Rhule
agreed to a contact extension with Baylor, which runs through the 2027 season. He remains keen on returning to the university for his fourth season despite numerous interviews.
Rhule served as an assistant offensive line coach with the Giants in 2012. He finished 28-23 during his stint at Temple University, leading the team to a 20-7 record over his final two years. At Baylor, Rhule led the Bears to two straight bowl appearances.
Like Rhule, McDaniels has his hands full with multiple suitors.
The longtime Patriots coordinator will meet with New York on Wednesday,
according to The Athletic's Michael Lombardi. McDaniels' isn't a familiar face for the Giants to pursue. The team previously interviewed McDaniels in 2018 before the gig ultimately went to Shumur.
McDaniels finished 8-8 in his first year with the Broncos in 2009. After losing nine of his first 12 games, McDaniels was ousted midway through his second season as the Broncos head coach.
The Browns and Panthers are expected to hold interviews during the same week as the Giants.
According to The Record's Art Stapleton, the Giants interviewed Patriots wide receivers coach Joe Judge on Monday.
