Mets Announcer Gary Cohen Jabs Astros in MLB: The Show Broadcast

There may not be any real baseball games going on, but the Mets have taken things one step further to make a simulated season feel as real as possible.

On Tuesday, SNY continued to simulate the Mets' 2020 season via MLB: The Show, but this time it had announcers Gary Cohen, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez call the game via Zoom as if it were an actual broadcast.

Jacob deGrom was on the mound against the Houston Astros — who would have entered the season under intense scrutiny following the sign-stealing scandal that rocked the baseball world this offseason.

Cohen, who spoke about his experience calling the virtual game on WFAN's "Moose and Maggie" on Tuesday, did not miss a beat when the opportunity presented itself to throw some shade at the Astros.

"You can hear very little from the crowd tonight, it almost feels like you're playing in a library," Cohen said during the broadcast. "Which would mean that any sound that might be emanating from the dugout, say, the sound of a trash can being banged, would be quite formidable."

Cohen told WFAN's Maggie Gray and Marc Malusis that he enjoyed the experience and admitted there were times it did feel like a real broadcast.

"We were bantering and talking about the game in much the same way we would in a normal circumstance," he said. "There are things in a computer game that are jarring and doesn't look like real life … but it was fun, it was a good exercise and it was nice to do something mildly approaching what we do."
