It may seem like everything is bad, but it’s not all negative news for the Mets.

There have been a couple bright spots for the team despite its struggles on the field. Pete Alonso has arguably been the most encouraging part of the Mets’ season so far. Now, Alonso is in-line for a bit of a reward for his success.

Alonso will appear in the Home Run Derby during All-Star weekend in Cleveland, Ohio. He spoke about the upcoming event before Friday night's game with the Atlanta Braves.

Alonso has been a revelation for the Mets this year. The front-runner for Rookie of the Year is tied for second in the league with 27 home runs on the season. It could be a busy weekend for the 24-year-old, as he also has a great chance to be selected to the All-Star team.

Participation in All-Star weekend will give Alonso a nice respite from the drama that has engulfed the Mets' season.

Darryl Strawberry is the only Mets player to ever have won the Home Run Derby. He did so back in 1986. That year's derby was held at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. This year's will be at Progressive Field.

Meanwhile on the other side of the city, the Yankees’ Gary Sanchez is reportedly still thinking about whether he wants to participate. Sanchez has 23 homers in 2019, which is tied for sixth in Major League Baseball.
